Frequently asked questions

What is Tonbridge Giving Day?

It’s a 36-hour focused challenge to bring together pupils, current and former parents and staff, Old Tonbridgians, and Governors, both virtually and physically, to take part in a series of fun challenges and fundraise, whilst giving back to our local community.

What are we fundraising for?

Current and future Foundation Award bursary pupils.

What are Foundation Award bursaries?

Rigorously means-tested financial awards for talented boys, full of potential who could not afford to attend Tonbridge without financial assistance.

Why give on the day?

All gifts, up to £150k , will be doubled by our generous matching donors. In addition, your gift as a parent or Old Tonbridgian will help to contribute to challenges that unlock even more funds.

Can I choose which area my donation supports?

All donations made through the Giving Day website will be directed to the Foundation Award bursary programme via the General Scholarship Fund. If you would like to direct your gift to a specific area of the school or a specific house fund, please contact us at Giving.Day@tonbridge-school.org

Is it safe to make my gift online?

Yes, all payments through our Giving Day website are securely processed by Stripe.

Can I make a recurring gift and become a member of the 1553 Society?

Yes, please! Please check the tick box on our donation form which reads: “I want to make this a regular direct debit.” One year of your regular gift will be counted towards our Giving Day total and the yearly total will appear on the website.

Tax efficient giving

If you are a UK taxpayer, Tonbridge can claim your tax back, so for every pound you donate we can claim an additional 25p at no cost to you. If you’re a higher-rate taxpayer, you can also claim back the difference between higher rate (40%) and basic rate tax (20%) on your total charitable donation. For more information, email us at Giving.Day@tonbridge-school.org or call us on 01732 304253. If you are a USA, Canada or Hong Kong resident, you too can make your gift tax efficient. Rather than donating via the Giving Day website, please email us on Giving.Day@tonbridge-school.org or call us on 01732 304253. A member of our team will ensure your gift is processed accordingly.

Can I see my gift on this website?

Yes. If you have not chosen to make your gift anonymous, you can look at the donor wall to see your name.

What are my options if I still don't want to give online?

We have given two options for those that don't want to give online below. We ask that you either email us on Giving.Day@tonbridge-school.org or call us on +44 1732 304253 to let us know that you are donating so we can add your contribution to the event totals.
